Tributes

We extend special recognition to individuals whose extraordinary generosity has profoundly transformed CHAI and our ability to serve our mission.

In Memory of Bill Balaban and Bitz

We would like to pay tribute to a special friend of the Center, Bill Balaban.  Bill was our first Center Advisor and a strong supporter of our research and educational activities.  He was well known in the human-animal bond field, having supported many projects in the past.  A retired television producer/director and Korean War veteran, Bill never sought public recognition, preferring to support our efforts with anonymous donations.  Bill died unexpectedly in November of 2008.  Prior to his death, he made an endowment bequest to establish the Bill Balaban Endowed Chair in Human-Animal Interaction at VCU.

We will miss Bill's gentleness, wisdom, directness, and sense of humor.  We are proud and honored to carry forth his legacy.
